Grow Your Own Food (GYOF) sharing by Fr Manoj

Hello, good afternoon to everyone especially to our friends in Singapore and especially Matthew and Melvin. Matthew who was in charge for our Grow Your Own Food during the Covid time, Covid19, especially we did not have any friends to visit us and in this time also not many patients, so our staff and myself we took initiative with Matthew Chen from Singapore and we try to take interest to plant the vegetable, some of the trees, especially during the month of July August. This is the best time when we really could do our vegetable garden...

We have planted cabbages, especially the sweet corn was very successful and also other vegetables. Our staff are holding some of the things especially the brinjals, ladies fingers and other things. A lot we had, especially in the health centre. We planted and we shared with other people especially our staffs. They can bring home back and also the priest house, sometimes we share with bishop, especially the sweet corn.

We had a very good cultivation this year and some of the things here, we have also seen some of the things still we have, but now at present moment I was quite busy with the planting the rice, harvesting the rice and all these things. So the Bon-chun-men, the feast for our ancestors, after that we are not able to do the new one, but still, we are hoping that this month slowly, we can start again, our “Grow Your Own Food.”

This was the time we could learn from each other, each other’s experience because we know our families are poor and we don't get any help from other outside. So from this, from our own experience, our staff we try to help each other, how to plant the vegetable, how to put the fertilizer, the, in particular from outside, it is like a compost, compost so that it can be like a whatever we grow, this is a like organic food.

So it was very tasty and our staffs and other people they liked it, and also other people they saw how we do it together, like this kind of a team building. At the same time team building, at the same time we learn from each other each other how we can cultivate a little small plot of land in front of our houses, and we can do for our own vegetable, for our own food

So it was a very good success and then we hope that our staff can continue by themselves in their own villages. Here, those who see us, how we cultivate, they can take the inspiration and they can start a small little garden in front of their houses.

I would like to thank all of you, especially the ACTS who has been helping us all the time and encouraging us and journeying together and this is the time we can say that this Covid time, we have really done together. So this goes to all of us, this is the teamwork from our team from the health centre Pet Yiey Chee and from Singapore, the group, all of us. So in future, we can support each other like this and we can share our experience and we can enjoy our life journey together.
