Stewardship Projects

We are very grateful and happy to announce that, with a lot of heart from our missioners and a lot of generous giving from our friends, family and supporters who have rallied around, we are now in a position to deliver on Battambang Mission 2021’s target to support at least 700 families (475 more families than our usual in pre-Covid years) with food aid and more ! A BIG thank you to everyone who has stepped up with support, we could not have reached our target of S$59k without your help! Awesome job, dear friends ! With that, Phase 1 of mission 2021 is about completed and our private fundraising under CHARIS's fundraising permit will close on 31 Oct 2021. But the Mission is far from over...

Phase 2 begins ! Do track the progress of our Stewardship Projects here, since Covid has made it that much more difficult to gather and see what our missioners are doing !

Virtual Walkathon

The Walkathon was a collective solidarity walk of 2219 km (the distance from Singapore to Battambang) targeted to be completed in the month of September and was symbolically flagged off on 1 September 2021 to start our Battambang Mission 2021. Around 70 friends and family of the ACTS community walked, jogged and ran for almost a month, using the free-to-use Strava app on their mobile phones to track their running or walking distance, and the distances were consolidated and tracked weekly in a private club on the Strava app...

Children's Book

Our first time author of children’s books, who has so generously offered us her time, words, art and all proceeds from her lovely book, titled The Purple Candle, to this Stewardship Project, has been working hard with one of our participants, a graphic designer, to get the book (with English and Khmer text of course) ready for publishing.

Free children’s workshops will also be conducted in conjunction with the book publication, in the coming months. We have already had a “pre-reading” session early on in the mission with children, our volunteer editor and our graphic designers for honest feedback and that went very well. Next is the packing and delivery exercise – the book is targeted to go to print sometime in November.  Do sign up to help if you can !

Grow Your Own Food

This Stewardship Project supports, with US$11,900 raised in Phase 1, a programme to enable the Battambang community to grow and rear livestock in small gardens within their homes, parishes and schools as an alternative and sustainable food source.

In Singapore, seeds will be given to willing participants so that they can grow small edible plants in solidarity with the Cambodians. A workshop on growing our own edible gardens right here in Singapore has been planned.

Private Dining

As part of spreading joy and the spirit of solidarity, our hospitality and culinary stewards conducted private dinners despite reduced number of guest and helpers due to Covid restrictions, in order to share delightful gastronomic creations, and to encounter each other with stories of Cambodia and the joy of mission.

Lemonade

A team of resourceful participants, a lemon tree in the backyard, and supportive family and help, makes this Stewardship Project remarkable in the heart and generous giving that went into it.  For the record, it featured 4 delicious flavours of handcrafted lemonade prettily bottled:

  • The Good Ole Classic

  • Pineapple Greyhound

  • Pretty in Pink (1986)

  • The Whiplash

This Stewardship Project is now closed and its young champion back in school. Thank you for your support – you drank 216 bottles and added S$2760 to our collection.

Media

Our mission cannot be complete without our media projects.

Apart from our regular montage videos, this year, we plan to create a music video, with a shared song sung in both Khmer and English. The song has been translated and soloists from Cambodia and Singapore have been identified and recruited.

In the next couple of months, the creative blend of musicians, singers, photographers, videographers and video and sound editors will be busy at work to integrate and blend it into a shared gift of song and of each other.

Formation & Community

The mission officially kicked off on Sep 5th with a mission-send off for our missioners conducted by by Fr Jovita, our Spiritual Director. We also had a joint Rosary session with the Battambang religious community on October 9th, and will conclude the mission in December, with a joint mission closing to celebrate the gift of each other and to reflect back on the journey.

Prior to the commencement of the mission, our project leaders met in June with a Day of Recollection to discern the approach for our mission this year.  Reflecting back on the uncertainty and enormity of the task ahead at that time, our faith has been strengthened by the fruits of the mission that we have observed so far.
